Vertical Siding

Why Choose Vertical Siding at WoodPlank?

Vertical siding changes the whole tone of a wall, with lines running floor to roofline instead of side to side. It can make shorter facades look taller and give flat-front designs a sense of movement that horizontal boards don't create.

There are practical benefits, too. Rain sheds straight down the face rather than pooling behind overlap joints. That could mean fewer moisture-related issues over the life of the wall.

But quality matters when it comes to siding, and this is where you find it. Whether you're updating existing house siding or starting from scratch, WoodPlank stocks real wood, composite, and aluminum options to help you bring your vision to life.

Our Most Popular Vertical Siding Products

There’s a product for every project at WoodPlank, with more variety than any other retailer. These are some of our best-selling products for installing siding vertically:

  • Thermowood siding: Thermally modified poplar siding, ash siding, hemlock siding, and pine siding in tongue-and-groove profiles. Moisture-resistant without chemical treatment.
  • Wood cladding (Modern Exterior): Poplar and ash in wider plank formats bring out a  more contemporary vibe.
  • Cedar siding: Natural oil content resists decay on its own. Weathers to silver-gray unfinished or holds its warm tone with a UV oil.
  • Composite: Wood-grain appearance in wide slat, shiplap plank, and narrow slat profiles. Far less upkeep than real wood.
  • Aluminum siding: Seven finishes from Oak to Satin Black at $284.99 per 12 square feet. Guaranteed maintenance-free.

Every product above is also available for horizontal installation. Not sure which is right for you? Just get in touch with our team for one-on-one support, and experience the level of service WoodPlank has earned a reputation for over the past 20+ years.

Frequently asked questions

What is vertical siding called?

You may see it referred to as slat wall. “Vertical cladding” shows up in architectural specs, and some regions call it “vertical planking.”

Is vertical siding cheaper?

Not necessarily. The orientation itself doesn't change the price - the same board costs the same whether it runs up or across. Material is what impacts your price. Thermally modified pine starts at $179.99 per 15 square feet, while cedar and aluminum come at a premium price point.

Does vertical siding increase home value?

It’s true that curb appeal can boost appraisals and have a positive impact on buyer perception - and a well-executed vertical facade can attract buyers who crave contemporary design. Whether that translates into a specific dollar increase depends on your market, your home's overall condition, and local buyer preferences.

Is vertical siding too trendy?

We don’t think so. This style has been prominent on American homes and commercial buildings for well over a century. Scandinavian homes have used vertical wood cladding for even longer. The only thing that’s “new” is how much traction the style is gaining in residential construction. We believe this style is here to stay, though.
